Groom gets 'box of lemons' as gift as prices skyrocket

Wedding gifts are difficult to choose as they hold a special meaning to them. In a recent event, a groom from the Indian state of Gujarat received an unusual but interesting gift on his wedding.

As the lemon prices are reportedly soaring in India, the friends and family gave the groom boxes containing lemons as his wedding gift.

According to News 18, one of the groom's relatives gave the details behind the "thoughtful" gift. 

"At this time, the prices of lemons in the state and the country have gone up... There is a lot of need for lemons this season. That is why I have presented lemons," he said. 

In the pictures — that have been circulating on the internet — two people can be seen gifting two boxes of lemons to the groom. The ceremony appears to be a haldi ceremony as everyone including the groom could be seen dressed up in yellow. 

The pictures and videos from the event went viral on social media after they were posted. While some people criticised the high prices, some had a good laugh.
