WASHINGTON: The United States urged Egypt Monday to respect "democratic principles" as President Mohamed Morsi clashed with the judiciary and the military over his reinstatement of the Egyptian parliament.
"Developments are unfolding quickly and we are monitoring them and in touch with Egypt's leaders," said Tommey Vietor, spokesman for the National Security Council. "Ultimately, though, these issues are for Egyptians to decide in a manner that respects democratic principles." (AFP)
