Assad appoints new defence minister
DAMASCUS: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed a new defence minister on Wednesday after a suicide bombing killed two top regime officials including defence minister General Daoud Rajha.

State television reported that Fahd al-Freij has now been appointed to the post. (AFP)
