DALLAS: Volunteer doctors and staff from the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Decent of North America (APPNA) provided free health-care check-ups and free flu vaccinations at local community centers, physician offices, and APPNA medical clinics in over 30 cities in the United States and Canada on Saturday November 15, 2012. While the same event was conducted on this week in Dallas in Plano masjid.
This nationwide event continues APPNA's preventative health initiative. APPNA internists, pediatricians, heart specialists, eye specialists, and dentists organized free blood pressure screenings, glucose check-ups, height and weight analysis, and educational programs on ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Advanced diagnostic testing, such as mammograms and cardiac ultrasound, were offered in some cities. For some chapters, the APPNA CARES - Clinic Day was an initial step towards establishing regular, free APPNA health clinics in undeserved communities.
APPNA CARES - Clinic Day started of the flu season, APPNA physicians administered the 2012-2013 Influenza Vaccine free of charge to eligible patients ages 4 and above, while supplies lasted. Influenza can be a life-threatening illness. The best protection against the flu is the flu vaccine.
APPNA physicians participated in educating their communities about the dangers of influenza, in immigrant communities where the practice of annual flu vaccination is not prevalent. APPNA provided vaccine supplies and informational materials free of cost.
