Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, has been selected to host World Expo 2030.

Under the theme "The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow," the Riyadh Expo will take place from October 2030 to March 2031.

Three countries — the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Italy, and South Korea — have been highly active in campaigning for this year's centrepiece event. This event is held every five years.

Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman is spearheading the Kingdom's efforts to stage the Expo, the next in a succession of events that Saudi Arabia will host.

This achievement will help boost Saudi Vision 2030 conceived by Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This roadmap leverages the Kingdom's God-given strengths, including its strategic location, investment power, and centrality in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

As the only bidder, the Kingdom was awarded the right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034.

With its origins in the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, the multi-month World Expo is a grand event that attracts millions of people and is specifically tailored to address contemporary issues.

The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris is in charge of organising the Expo, and votes are cast by its 182 member states to choose the winner.

After every candidate's final bid presentation on Tuesday during the BIE general assembly in the French capital, Riyadh was chosen.

The topic of the next World Expo, "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," is set for 2025 in Osaka, Japan. 2020 saw the holding of the most current one in Dubai.
