KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Riffat Mukhtar Monday assured Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf of “foolproof” security for the country's flagship tournament matches scheduled to be held in Karachi.

With the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9) set to kick off on February 17, Mukhtar met the PCB head at Karachi’s Central Police Office to mull over security measures pertaining to the conduct of PSL matches.

During the meeting, as per a statement, the top cop reiterated that the Sindh Police has always maintained high alertness and security in every important event at the National Stadium — set to host a total of 11 matches including the qualifier, two eliminators, and the final.

"Security matters will be handled with full professionalism and extraordinary measures in all aspects," the IG said.

Meanwhile, Ashraf expressed complete satisfaction with the approved contingency plans for the PSL matches and expressed gratitude to the police officer.

Ashraf further ensured assurance and confirmed the commitment of cooperation from both himself and the PCB administration towards every possible collaboration.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan’s flagship cricket tournament will commence in Lahore with the opening match featuring two-time champions and current titleholders, Lahore Qalandars, going up against Islamabad United — winners of the 2016 and 2018 editions.
