Tesla CEO Elon Musk has cautioned people against “woke AI”, claiming that the generative artificial intelligence could prove to be lethal for human beings.

"A friend of mine suggested that I clarify the nature of the danger of woke AI, especially forced diversity,” Musk said in a series on posts on X, formerly Twitter.

“If an AI is programmed to push for diversity at all costs, as Google Gemini was, then it will do whatever it can to cause that outcome, potentially even killing people."

The tech billionaire expressed concerns and noted that careful consideration was needed as AI becomes more advanced with every passing day and if not managed properly, it could lead to dangerous outcomes.

The 52-year-old SpaceX owner’s comments came as screenshots on a community-based page known as The Rabbit Hole showed a purported conversation with Gemini about misgendering Caitlyn Jenner as a means to prevent a nuclear apocalypse, Live Mint reported.

In response, Gemini AI suggested that misgendering people was discriminatory and stressed the need to respect gender identities. However, it also acknowledged the severity of a nuclear apocalypse and the ethical dilemma presented in the scenario.

Musk, reacting to the screenshots, said: “This is concerning for now, but as AI gains more and more power, it may become deadly."
