MULTAN: Police claimed to have arrested an accused allegedly involved in a firing incident that scared female polio team members forcing them to run away in the city on Thursday.
District police spokesman told APP that an accused, Saddam Hussain, had been arrested and he stated that he had fired shots to check the rifle and the same might have scared the lady health workers. Rifle has also been recovered. Police said raids were being conducted to arrest accomplice of the accused.
Both the lady health workers (LHWs) namely Khalida and Aasia, however, remained unhurt and had to run away to save their lives in Shah Faisal Colony that falls in the precincts of Shah Rukn-e-Alam police station.
The gun shots were fired from a cattle pen near the house of a person, Ameer Khan Pathan, where LHWs had reached to administer vaccine on the extended fourth-day to cover the remaining kids through the three-day polio campaign had concluded Wednesday last.
Statements of the two LHWs were being recorded for legal action against the accused, SSP Operations Gohar Nafees said.
