KARACHI: Four people were killed while 42 others sustained wounds following a powerful blast in Federal B Area Karachi, minutes after conclusion of a massive rally held nearby under the banner of MQM and Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran, Geo News reported Tuesday.

Sindh Health Minister, Dr Sagheer Ahmed confirmed the casualties.

According to DIG Asif Aijaz Shaikh, a motor-cycle with an explosive device strapped to it had been installed between parked busses near Aisha Manzil which was remote detonated later.

Ball bearings were also mixed with the explosives weighting about 2 kilograms, police said.

The explosion took place at a point where people started to converge to get on board the parked busses to return to their destinations following the conclusion of the public meeting organized in Jinnah Ground.

Two people were killed and at least forty others were injured, some of them seriously, police said, adding many busses and other vehicles were also damaged in the blast.

The thunder of the blast was heard many kilometers across the point of explosion.

Police and emergency response teams reached the terror struck site immediately after the blast and injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed and other hospitals in the city.
