HKSCA holds its second annual meeting
HOUSTON: Houston Karachi Sister City Association (HKSCA) held its 2nd Annual meeting/Election and Inauguration of newly elected officials, the occasion was attended by members in large numbers and community leadership.

Council Member Andrew Burks was the Chief Guest and represented City of Houston. The occasion marks the completion of a very successful two-year term of President Muhammad Saeed Sheikh and his team of 2011-12.

Election Commissioner Rashid Khokhar announced names of elected Board of Directors which includes President Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, Vice President Mohammad Zaheer, General Secretary Omar Khawaja, Treasurer Azam Akhtar. Other members of board of directors includes M.J.Khan, Syed Nayyar Izfar, Cristal Montinez, David Godwin, Nasr Khan and the following committee chairs were also appointed Community Services & Media Affairs Ilyas Choudry, Public relations Khalid Kazi, Publications Amir Maqsood Khan, Trade & Commerce Matloob Khan.

President Sheikh presented the Annual Report and stated that today HKSCA ranks at the top of the Sister Cities Association of the city of Houston at the end of 2011-2012.

He further said that since its inception HKSCA has focused on supporting and facilitating various activities between Houston and Karachi.

“I am pleased that we made significant achievements as per our plan of action, under the areas of Education, Humanitarian Work, Healthcare, Culture and Trade. This brought both cities closer and opened the path to continue realizing more benefits laid down in the charter signed by Mayor Bill White and Mustafa Kamal in 2009.”

Chief Guest Council Member Andrew Burks administered the oath of Officers and Presented City of Houston special recognition to HKSCA and lauded the extra ordinary achievements of HKSCA and on behalf of city of Houston extended congratulations to Houston Karachi sister city association as it inaugurates its board of directors.

He also call upon all Houstonians to learn more about the city of Karachi and cultivate stronger ties with it, our city is a tapestry of cultures and perspectives creating strong business development and economic opportunities. He thanked the Pakistani American community of Houston and wish for great success for many years to come.

Represented Consulate of Pakistan Mr. Fawad Shah acknowledged the efforts of HKSCA in brining Trade and Educational Delegations last year.

M.J.Khan highlighted the significance of Sister City program and HKSCA establishment.

Other who spoke on the occasion were Nayyar Izfar, Omar Khawaja.

Many prominent community leadership also attended the event which included Attorney Nomaan Husian, President of South Asian Chamber, President of Turkish Center Mehmet, President Istanbul Sister City Ruhi Ozgul, Shah Haleem and Khaleed Khan of Bangladesh Association, Sam Merchant from Congressman Al Green office, Aziz Siddiqui, Shahid Sunny, Gul Fraz Khan and many others.
