In the upcoming Avatar, James Cameron says a new tribe of Na'vi will be featured but in a different light.
In an interview with Empire magazine, he said that Avatar 3 would be at odds with the moral paradigm of the franchise so far.
The forthcoming film will feature Ash People, also known as the Mangkwan Clan. Varang will be their leader, played by Oona Chaplin.
"Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that," the Oscar winner director said. "She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."
"One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic," he noted. "We're trying to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm."
It is not the first time James shared about the aspects of the Ash People, saying the "different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the 'Ash People.' I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides."
"In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples," he told French newspaper 20 Minutes.
"In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal," James concluded.
Avatar 3 will open in theatres on December 19.
