A renowned actress and singer, Jessica Simpson, recently got separated from her husband, Eric Johnson, and the reason has been revealed by an insider.

A source told People magazine that the 44-year-old’s difference with Johnson became too much for her to handle.

“Their marital issues have felt suffocating for a while,” the insider shared.

The source went on to add that “she needs to move on for her own well-being.”

Notably, this came after Simpson proclaimed her split with the star of Fifty Shades Darker on Tuesday, January 14, quipping that they have been "navigating a painful situation."

Shedding light on her decision, the singer of With You told the same outlet by saying, “Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage.”

“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family,” she noted.

Johnson was also spotted without his wedding ring in November last year and during the same time, the Irresistible crooner shared a cryptic Instagram post about her "comeback" to music, showing photos of herself in a recording studio.

"Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve,” she added a caption under her post.

It is pertinent to mention that after four years of dating, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson tied the knot in July 2014.

The pair share three children: daughters Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
