PESHAWAR: A special floral wreath laying ceremony was held at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada Peshawar to commemorate the heroes who laid down their lives while safeguarding the frontiers of the country and during the 'War on Terror'.

Corps Commander Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani and Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Yousaf, Sitar-i-Jurat were chief guest on the occasion and they laid the wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.

A smartly turned out contingent of Pak Army presented salute to pay respect to the great heroes, said a press release of ISPR issued here on Wednesday.

Corps Commander while addressing on the occasion said that the defender of Pakistan have withstood multifarious challenges and tests of time.

Backed by the people of Pakistan, its Armed Forces always rose to the occasion, be it guarding the frontier in war, protecting the lives of people in various calamities, rendering services for nation building, purging the society of the menace of terrorism.

More than 3000 soldiers have embraced martyrdom while more than 10,000 soldiers were injured in the recent war on terror, he added.

Corps Commander said to the students present in the ceremony that you are the bright future of Pakistan. Sovereignty and prosperity of this country should be your priority. Make sure sacrifices offered by our Shuhada should not go waste.

Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Yousaf, SJ while speaking on the occasion said that nation is proud of our heroes who had stood fast in the hour of need and world has recognized the courage and bravery of our soldiers.

The celebrations of Youm-e-Shuhada started with Quran Khawani and prayers were offered for the preservation of blessing of all the Shuhada of Army, sovereignty and solidarity of the country.

The ceremony was attended by the large number of Shuhada families, serving and retired Army officers, police, FC, members of civil society, students and teachers of colleges and universities. (APP)
