603 profiteers’ challaned, 35 jailed

KARACHI: On the directives of Metropolitan Commissioner and Controller General of Prices Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, stern actions against profiteers were taken on Friday in which 603 shopkeepers were challaned and 35 others jailed.

A total of Rs1, 261,300 fines was received from different profiteers selling commodities above
government rates.

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Malir Qazi Jan Mohammad, 73 shopkeepers were challaned and Rs2, 25,700 fines was imposed, while a shopkeeper was jailed.

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner West Ganhwar Khan Leghari, actions were taken against profiteers in different areas of District West. As a result, 133 shopkeepers were challaned and Rs3, 72,000 fine imposed, while seven shopkeepers were jailed.

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Central Dr Syed Saifur Reham, actions were taken in various areas of the Central District in which 133 shopkeepers were challaned and Rs2, 88,000 fine imposed, while 18 shopkeepers were jailed.

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner South, actions were taken in various areas of District South in which 100 shopkeepers were challaned and Rs1, 71,000 fines was imposed, while eight shopkeepers were jailed.

Similarly, on the directives of Deputy Commissioner East Samiuddin Siddiqui, 165 shopkeepers were challaned and Rs2, 68,500 fine was imposed on different shopkeepers, while three profiteers were jailed.
