Charlize Theron recently shared what her children think about her career.
The 49-year-old South African-American actress and film producer showed up on the Thursday, May 8 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her forthcoming film, The Old Guard 2.
While having the conversation with Kimmel, Theron opened up about her daughters, the 12-year-old Jackson and 9-year-old August’s perception of her career when Kimmel inquired about their reaction while seeing her in the films and on the billboard.
The Oscar-winning actress shared, “My children have zero respect for me. It’s just unbelievable, I feel like I’m pretty humble, but every once in a while I’m like ‘there’s a f***** Oscar right there.’ They are so not impressed with me.”
She went on to recount a recent instance when one of her daughters showed more fascination for Tom Cruise than her, even though she has also done action movies.
The Mad Max: Fury Road star revealed, “I was picking up my youngest from dance yesterday and we drove past the new Mission Impossible poster where Tom Cruise is hanging onto some yellow plane, and he just looks really cool.”
She continued, “My kids were with me when I shot Old Guard 2 and I worked on this incredibly intricate sequence where we brought in this amazing helicopter pilot, Fred North, and we were gonna choreograph this incredible me fighting helicopters and jumping on this real helicopter and hanging off. Shooting 99% of it on a real helicopter as it’s trying to shake me off like a rag doll.”
Theron detailed that filming that sequence took almost two weeks and she was like, “‘Wow, I just did that, that’s really amazing.’ And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, ‘It’s weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.’”
“I was just like, ‘I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?’” Theron jokingly stated.
Before concluding, it is noteworthy to mention that The Old Guard 2 will be released on July 2, 2025, on Netflix.
