Cheryl is hoping to hold off on letting her son Bear inherit his late father Liam Payne's £24 million fortune.
A source close to Cheryl, who welcomed her first child with One Direction alum Payne in 2017, wants to protect their son until an age where he can make “informed decisions” about the money.
Payne left behind a now eight-year-old son Bear Grey Payne when he fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina at age 31.
The dad-of-one also left behind £28.6 million which went down to £24.3 million after expenses and debts were paid. However, he didn’t make a will before his passing.
However, after one's spouse, the deceased's children can be next to claim any money. Since Payne and Cheryl never married, his only child Bear will be inheriting it when he is older.
Cheryl, 41, has reportedly sought advice from trustees of the former One Direction star’s estate and wants to block the money for her son until the age of 25.
“She wants him to still have ambition and the drive to succeed without the back-up of the money — and she’s aware that people may want to befriend him because they are aware of his situation," a source told The Sun.
“Cheryl has spoken to the trustees and the money will be invested until Bear is of the right age to start receiving some of it.”
Liam and Cheryl dated for a year before they announced they were expecting a child. The pair later split but remained close.
