Lorde gets candid about her age gap relationship

Lorde spoke out about her age gap romance and confirmed her breakup with longtime boyfriend Justin Warren.

After the pop star's appearance with musician and producer Jim-E Stack last October fueled her split rumors with Warren, she confirmed her break up in a recent chat with Rolling Stone.

"I went through a breakup," Lorde began. "It was so painful, as they are, but there was real dignity to it and grace and a lot of respect. It continues to be a relationship that I cherish."

The 28-year-old singer reflected on her repetitive pattern in her past relationship that she has sought older partner or mentors to fill the void in her

"I had this feeling that I had never been alone. There'd always been someone, not even necessarily a romantic partner. And often that was an older person. I was always choosing someone to be God. It was a pattern I found myself repeating," Lorde explained.

She reasoned that it might be linked to her leaving home at an early age, "I think because of leaving home so young and not quite being ready to be on my own. But I had this very acute sense that I needed to be alone to really meet myself," Lorde noted.

After facing a "really f****** difficult” experience with solitude she has finally embraced it.
