Imran’s invite to Rangers in KP surprises interior minister

ISLAMABAD: Expressing surprise apparently over PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s statement, in which he invited Rangers paramilitary force in Khyber Pakthunkhwa making his party’s government open for accountability, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Tuesday said any such invitation falls out of the law’s ambit.

In a statement issue here, Chaudhy Nisar Ali Khan, without mentioning the PTI chief’s statement form yesterday, said such a demand from head of a political party has surprised him.

“Inviting Rangers for accountability doesn’t fall within the ambit of the law... Rangers do not have this sort of mandate in Karachi or anywhere else,” he said.

The minister said everybody has the right of freedom of speech. However, he added that this freedom must be observed within the constraint of Constitution and law.

He said all Pakistanis acknowledge performance and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan Army under the dynamic leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.

Pakistan Army officials have been enjoying all accolades as they were performing their duties efficiently authorised to them by Constitution and law of the land.

Chaudhry Nisar said extending such demands to Pakistan Army and Rangers aimed at attaining political point scoring can make these national institutions controversial and also can impair actual purpose of Karachi operation against the criminals.

“It is an unwise act on part of a political leader by involving state institutions for political gains,” said Nisar. It was also against democratic norms, he added.

The PML-N stalwart said the politics of allegations was easy but it was difficult to keep one’s performance up to the mark and find out solutions to the problems.

The interior minister said today’s Pakistan was far better than that of 2013 as law and order situation was returning to normalcy in Karachi and the whole country.
