LONDON: A judge at the Southwark Crown Court heard here from the Crime Prosecution Service (CPS) that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's grandson Zikriya Sharif was made to fear that PTI supporter Gulfam Hussain would use violence against him at the Avenfield flats.
Gulfam appeared before the crown court judge, where the prosecution read out full details of the case to the judge. In the
In the King Vs Gulfam case, the judge was told that Hussain had been charged with putting a person in fear of violence by harassment, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
The charge reads: "Gulfam Hussain between 22nd November 2024 and 12 April 2025 caused Zikriya Sharif to fear that violence would be used against him by his course of conduct which he knew or ought to have known would cause fear of violence to Zikriya Sharif on each occasion in that he recorded threatening messages towards him and his family outside his family home and by throwing stones at the front door of their property."
The judge announced that the trial will be held in June 2027. Till then, he said Gulfam will be monitored through an electronic tag. He told Hussain he remains banned from going near the Park Lane flats.
The original complaint to the police was made by Khurram Butt, PML-N UK's Youth Wing leader who was also present in the court. Asked by the judge about the charges, Gulfam denied the charges and refused to plead guilty.
In January this year, the PTI activist was arrested by Scotland Yard and released on bail, but was banned from going anywhere near Avenfield flats, where members of the Sharif family live.
Gulfam, who was in PML-N till joining PTI last year, was arrested by the police on January 17 for threatening to harm Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former PM Nawaz Sharif and other members of the Sharif family, including a threat to blow up the Park Lane flats – live on TikTok.
Gulfram said he will defend his actions and will continue to fight the case. He accused that Butt had secretly filmed him and passed the evidence to the police. Butt said he will be appearing during the trial as a prosecution witness.
