Alan Cumming recently confirmed his return to the sequel to the beloved 1997 comedy, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.

During his latest chat with PEOPLE Magazine, he was asked about the highly anticipated follow-up.

Alan told the outlet that he very enthusiastic to reprise his role as Sandy Frink, joining original stars Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino, who played the iconic 28-year-old best friends, Michele Weinberger and Romy White.

“It's very exciting. It's been really fun actually talking to Robin [Schiff], the writer and Lisa [Kudrow] as well about it,” he also shared.

Dishing more details about his project, Alan revealed that the movie is slated for a 2027 release, but he remained tight-lipped about the plot, insisting, "I can't really say much without giving too much away.”

“Obviously everyone's still in each other's lives. But it may be in a different way... It's nice to think of those characters still being old friends,” he teased.

In conclusion, Alan expressed approval of the 2027 release reasoning that the window is "kind of appropriate" as it will coincide with the original film's 30th anniversary, a milestone he found both "hilarious and also terrifying".

“Next year we'd shoot it and it would come out the following year, which would be 30 years since the [first] movie came out,” he admitted before starting a new topic.
