Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon announced plans to establish a mini truck assembly in Karachi in partnership with China, adding that charging stations for electric vehicles will also be established across the province.
He stated this on Sunday at the unveiling ceremony of the super mini truck in the Chinese city of Bozhou, stating, “these initiatives will greatly benefit various business groups and individuals”.
The event was attended by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Group CEO of Budget Petroleum Investment Holdings Company (Hong Kong) Zahid Bashir, Chairman of Chinese company Chery Holding Yin Tongyue, and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, provincial minister for information, transport, and mass transit Memon said that the super mini truck project was a remarkable example of Pakistan-China industrial and technical cooperation which would open new avenues of development and prosperity for both countries.
He added that the mini truck project — developed in collaboration with the Chinese company Chery Holding and Pedi Technology Company Limited — was a revolutionary innovation. The vehicle offered a solution to logistic challenges faced in both urban and rural areas while also serving as a model of sustainable, affordable, and accessible transport.
The project was a remarkable blend of modern engineering, intelligent design, environmental adaptable and was fully capable of meeting the growing demand for light commercial vehicles in Pakistan.
The assembly line for the mini truck would soon be established in Karachi which would boost industrial development, promote local component manufacturing, create employment opportunities and facilitate technology transfer in Pakistan.
“This project marks the first step towards transforming Karachi into a regional hub for automobile manufacturing,” said the provincial information minister.
The Sindh government would extend all possible support, including regulatory facilitation, infrastructure development, and training of local manpower.
“A key feature of the super mini truck is its ability to be easily converted into a super mini car,” said Sharjeel Memon.
Lastly, in his address, the minister praised visionary leadership of Yin Tongyue, the chairman of the Chinese company Chery Holding.
