Domhnall Gleeson, the Harry Potter actor recently got up close and personal with The Irish Times about nepotism.
For those unversed with his background, Domhnall is the son of Oscar nominated star Brendan Gleeson, who has a number of accolades under his belt, from Primetime Emmy Award, two British Independent Film Awards and three IFTA Awards.
He also portrayed the role of Barty Crouch Jnr and Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody.
Thus, in light of his father’s success over the years, Domhnall got candid and called the nepotism debate, “an important conversation,” given the fact that “there are a lot of people whose parents are in the industry.”
He also pointed out how “it’s important that there is room for other people,” exactly because of this.
However, he didn’t shy away from sharing the positives as well, and even gushed over his dad for a bit saying, “I’ve been so lucky when it comes to what my father did and having the means to be able to pursue acting even when I wasn’t making enough money to look after myself.”
Still before signing off he circled back to the start and added, “I think it’s fair for people to talk about that, and it’s important that you can acknowledge it.” Because “otherwise you’re lying to yourself. I also think it’s important that more people can get into the industry who don’t have the means of the majority who are in there at the moment.”
