Denzel Washington lashes out at photographer during 2025 Cannes red carpet appearance

A video of Denzel Washington yelling at a photographer on Cannes' red carpet is making rounds on the internet.

The Highest 2 Lowest star, 70, was speaking with the film’s director Spike Lee when a photographer on the red carpet grabbed Washington’s arm to get his attention.

Washington’s costar A$AP Rocky was reaching out to the actor when Washington turned around to confront the photographer grabbing him.

Washington pointed his finger at the smiling photographer as he warned him to stop. Despite nodding in agreement, the photographer held the actor's arm again.

Visibly annoyed, Washington freed his arm and gave the photographer another stern warning, repeatedly telling him, "Stop."

The Oscar winner did not take the heated exchange into account when he was interviewed by the press later.

“It was a great evening,” the actor told People Magazine.

Washington also received a surprise Honorary Palme d'Or later, shortly before the film premiered inside the theater.

In his acceptance speech, the Gladiator II star expressed his utmost surprise when presented with the festival's highest honour.

"This is a total surprise for me, so I'm a little emotional, but from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. It was a great opportunity to collaborate with my brother once again — brother from another mother, Spike,” Washington said during his speech.

"To be here once again in Cannes, you know, we're a very privileged group in this room that we get to make movies and wear tuxedos and nice clothes and dress up and get paid for it as well," Washington added, to which the audience broke into laughter.

"You know, we're just blessed beyond measure, I'm blessed beyond measure, and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. Thank you."

Highest 2 Lowest will be in select theaters from August 22 and will be released on Apple TV+ on September 5.
