Royal travels to Birmingham to open transplant centre at Queen Elizabeth hospital

The Duchess of Gloucester travelled to Birmingham where she officially opened Edmonds Transplant Centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said a statement issued by the royal family.

According to the statement, "The new centre provides all the services that patients would need in their transplant journey, with the Birmingham-based hospital being the most active transplant centre in Europe."

It said,  "The hospital carries out all the major organ transplants – heart, lung, liver and kidney - and the new centre will enable the hospital to continue to provide life-changing care to their patients."

Multiple pictures of the royal visiting the media facility were also shared by the royal family on its official Instagram account.

The Duchess of Gloucester,  Birgitte, is married to Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester. 

Prince Richard is cousins with the late Queen Elizabeth II and the son of the late Prince Henry, the late queen's uncle.
