Sarah Silverman breaks silence after losing both of her parents

Sarah Silverman opened up about how she channels grief of losing both of her parents

In a talk with PEOPLE magazine about her newly released Netflix show Extremely Cathartic, the 54-year-old American comedian and actress shared, “I always email them. When you have something to brag about, your parents are the only people in the world that love it. It’s sustenance for them. It makes them so happy. I’ll send some sort of braggy thing like, ‘Guess who I met?'"

While giving an interview to the outlet over zoom from her Los Angeles residence, Sarah added, “Tomorrow is the two-year anniversary of my dad dying. It was such a horrible, beautiful, interesting time that kind of left us all just completely depleted and then kind of full again.”

For the unversed, the Emmy-winning comedian’s father, Donald Silverman, passed away due to kidney failure just nine days after her stepmother, Janice, succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

Donald, who had a women’s discounted clothing brand, chose to live at his home surrounded by his family during his final days instead of staying in hospital.

“He could have probably fought and lived a little longer. He wanted to be with Janice," Sarah Silverman noted, sharing her father's wish.

Before concluding, it is pertinnet to mention that Extremely Cathartic was released on May 20, 2025.
