DUBAI: While reports of tension between Pakistani and Indian communities surface in various parts of the world, Dubai has once again proved that the language of love and sports transcends all borders.

In an extraordinary gesture, the Indian community in Dubai gave a rousing welcome to former Pakistani cricket captain Shahid Afridi at the Pakistan Association Dubai.

Their warm interaction showcased the harmony and mutual respect that binds communities in the United Arab Emirates.

The Kerala community of India was hosting an event at the Pakistan Association Dubai when Afridi's arrival transformed the atmosphere. Chanting "Boom Boom," Indian attendees paused their event to honour Afridi and invited him to join them on stage.

Speaking to the gathering, Afridi remarked, "On the field, we played tough matches, but off the field, our relations have always been friendly."

He praised Kerala, calling it a beautiful place with exquisite cuisine, adding, "I often watch videos of Kerala's food on YouTube."

A lighter moment came when fans cheered "Boom Boom" as Afridi took the stage. With a smile, he responded, "No more Boom Boom — I’m the old Boom Boom now."

The event turned into a memorable display of unity, with both Pakistani and Indian attendees taking photos and warmly shaking hands with Afridi and former Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul, who was also invited to the event.
