Miley Cyrus claims she's still struggling with her codependency toward her mom Tish Cyrus.
The Grammy-winning singer was speaking of her newly-released album Something Beautiful in a New York Times article published May 31.
At one point, Miley disclosed how her mother inspired some part of the lyrics in her lead single End of The World—written when the mother-daughter duo were apart.
“That was completely ridiculous. She went on a vacation to Italy without me for one week, and it felt like the end of the world to both of us,” Miley told the outlet.
“That’s what it’s about. I had never had my mom leave the country without me before,” she explained.
“I’m too old to feel that way, but that’s how I felt. And my mom called me and said, 'I don’t know why, but I want to cry today. I’m looking out my window, and there’s nothing out there for me because you’re back home.'"
“Today you woke up and you told me that you wanted to cry,” read the first lyrics in the song, which also features more parts inspired by her mom.
During the interview, the Flowers hitmaker also revealed some mother-daughter rituals that have changed in recent years.
“My mom no longer travels with me, because I’m 33 years old, and it was getting ridiculous,” the musician told the outlet, referring to her earlier reliance on her mother to be there with her on tour.
Something Beautiful is out now.
