During a candid conversation at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, Bryan Cranston opened up about the personal cost of fame, revealing how his rise to stardom has affected his decades-long marriage to actress Robin Dearden.
In a discussion titled From Breaking Bad To Dos Hombres: Storytelling And Beyond with Variety’s Cynthia Littleton, the 69-year-old actor acknowledged that the demands and spotlight of celebrity life can strain even the strongest of personal bonds.
According to Daily Mail, Cranston said, “The luck and good fortune I’ve had creates that ascension of opportunity. But then you’re working just as hard… and there’s this weird thing called celebrity and fame — and what that does is it offsets your personal relationship.”
Cranston, who became a household name through shows like Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad, admitted that balancing fame with family hasn’t always been easy.
Moreover, he shared how public attention has, at times, made his wife feel like a bystander.
He said, “There are moments when photographers ask her to step aside so they can take solo photos of me. It’s an interesting dynamic… it comes with being lucky in my profession.”
Cranston and Dearden met on the set of Airwolf in the 1980s and tied the knot in 1989.
Together, they share a daughter, Taylor Dearden, who is forging her own path in the industry with a breakout role on HBO’s The Pitt.
In a 2023 interview with British GQ, Cranston revealed plans to live abroad temporarily, partly as a gesture to rebalance their relationship.
Additionally, he said, “For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail… She’s had to pivot her life based on mine. She deserves more — I want to level that out.”
While Dearden’s acting career has slowed in recent years, she continues to take on select roles, including voice work in 2024’s The Alchemist of Cecil Street, alongside her husband.
