Tom & Jerry: Forbidden is set to release on August 9 in China, as Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed.
According to Deadline, the animated movie is set to premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass official logline reads, “the iconic cat-and-mouse duo as they accidentally travel through time in a museum. Along their journey, they meet a group of intriguing new companions and become involved in a final showdown with mysterious forces.”
No.7 Cherry Lane filmmaker Zhang Gang served as the director while Warner Bros. Pictures in China produced the movie, and Wu Zhou Film Distribution Co. Ltd will distribute it.
Earlier, Warner Bros. licensed the Tom and Jerry IP in Singapore, creating a set from which a series of shorts was produced for Cartoon Network and HBO Go.
Apart from this, the studio also made cartoon shorts for Japanese audiences.
Tom and Jerry will mark its 85th anniversary this year. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created the animated cartoon series in 1940.
