Pre-monsoon rains to continue till today

Duststorm, rain-wind and thundershower with isolated heavy fall and hailstorm expected in many parts of country

The Meteorological Office said on Monday that moist currents from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are penetrating upper and central parts of the country predicting pre-monsoon rains from June 20 to 23 (today) with occasional gaps.

It added that a westerly wave was also likely to approach upper parts on June 20 (Friday).

Under the influence of this weather system, duststorm, rain-wind and thundershower with isolated heavy fall and hailstorm are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, D.I. Khan and Waziristan with occasional gaps.

Moreover, duststorm, rain-wind and thundershower are expected in Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kalat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal from June 21 to 23 with occasional gaps.

Meanwhile, duststorm, rain-wind and thundershower are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu and Jacobabad from June 22 to 24.

Possible Impacts and advice by the authorities informed that windstorm, dust-thunderstorm and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels etc in upper and central parts including Islamabad.

The advisory also added that very hot weather conditions are likely to subside gradually during the forecast period. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions.

General Public, travellers and tourists are advised to take precautionary measures during the weather activity. Urban flooding may occur in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the forecast period.
