The whole thing happened during his interview with the Mail Online where Mr Loughton put the couple on blast for failing to acknowledge or even wish the residents of Sussex well wishes for “Sussex Day”.

In his eyes the duo ‘don’t represent’ the community at all and even called for them to be stripped of their namesake.

“Yet again the interest of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the county from which they continue to use their title has been underwhelming to say the least,” he started by saying.

“It is time we had a Duke of Sussex who has a genuine interest in our County,” because “wishing Sussex residents a happy Sussex Day is hardly a tall order,” he also added.

The public call-out didn’t end there either, because the former MP added in his concluding remark, “they rarely visited Sussex even before they abandoned the UK for California and on our County Day they have again shown no interest in Sussex.”

For those unversed with ‘Sussex Day’, it falls on the 16th of June and according to the county’s on website is “a day to celebrate all the good things about our wonderful county.”

The date pays homage to St Richard's Day, a day celebrating the life of St Richard, Bishop of Chichester (1245-1253).
