Brad Pitt recently got candid and opened up about his first Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting after divorce from Angelina Jolie.
On the Monday, June 23 episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, the 61-year-old American actor and film producer talked about going to his first AA meeting after his separation from Jolie.
Pitt told the 50-year-old American actor, comedian, and host, who was also at that meeting, “I needed rebooting, I needed to wake the fuck up in some areas.”
Shepard shared that “a bazillion famous people” have been to that AA meeting and Pitt’s presence was “overwhelming” in the way you would expect from a big star.
However, he was not sure if the meeting would make it hard for the F1 star to open up, but that “turned out not to be the case at all.”
Shepard said to Pitt, “You were so f***** honest. I was like, he must have a stubbornness like I have, which is like, ‘Yeah, all this is going on, but I refuse to let it not let me be a person.’”
The Troy actor admitted that he had not thought about the experience that way before and was open at that time because things were not going in his favour.
“I was pretty much on my back, on my knees. I was really open to… I was trying anything that anyone threw at me. It was a particularly difficult time,” he quipped.
At the start of the discussion, Pitt felt a bit nervous but when he saw people be “so open,” it persuaded him “to go” and eventually he ended up deciding, “OK, I’m going to step out on this edge and see what happens.’ Then I just really grew to love it.”
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith alum confessed it was “incredible” to be with other men in a room who shared “their experiences, their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches — and a lot of humor with it.”
Brad Pitt called the experience “really special," as he was brought up in the Ozarks in Missouri, where people put efforts into hiding their feelings and pretend “everything’s great.”
