Fact-check: Video shows Iranian military thanking Pakistan for protecting nuclear sites?

Hive Moderation found the video to be 91% likely to have been created using artificial intelligence

After the 12-day Israel-Iran war, a video began circulating online, allegedly showing Iranian military officers thanking Pakistan for protecting Iran's nuclear facilities from Israeli and American attacks.

The claim is false. The video was generated using publicly available artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Claim

On June 23, a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a seven-second video showing two supposed military officers looking into the camera and saying: "Our nuclear programme is completely safe, thanks to the support of Pakistan's intelligence."

The video had been viewed 177,000 times and liked nearly 5,400 times at the time of writing.

The same video has also been shared here, here and here.

Fact

The video is fabricated. Independent analysis and expert assessments confirm it is a deepfake.

Geo Fact Check used Hive Moderation, a platform that detects AI-generated content, which found the video to be 91% likely to have been created using artificial intelligence. While Attestiv, another AI detection platform, also gave it a Tamper Score of 96.

Anees Qureshi, an open-source intelligence analyst at Bytes for All in Islamabad, told Geo Fact Check that the video was likely generated using Google Veo 3, an AI video generator. According to Qureshi, Veo 3 produces realistic videos up to eight seconds long using text prompts, and the duration and visual style of this clip match that format.

Additionally, Geo Fact Check found no credible news source or official report supporting the claims made in the video.

Verdict: The video was generated using artificial intelligence and does not show real Iranian military personnel.
