Fact-check: No, State Bank has not issued a new Rs1,000 note

The State Bank of Pakistan has called the online claims false

Social media is flooded with videos and images claiming that the State Bank of Pakistan has redesigned the Rs1,000 currency note.

The claims are untrue.

Claim

On June 22, a Facebook user posted pictures of what appeared to be a newly designed Rs1,000 note, with the caption: "The State Bank of Pakistan has issued a brand new Rs1,000 currency note, featuring a modern design and equipped with the latest security and printing technology."

Similar claims were also shared on TikTok and Instagram.

Fact

No new Rs1,000 currency note has been issued by the central bank of Pakistan.

Noor Ahmed, the chief spokesperson of the State Bank, told Geo Fact Check that the online claims are "fake".

While a spokesperson from a private bank in Karachi, who requested anonymity, also confirmed there has been no official communication about the issuance of a redesigned note from the central bank.

Geo Fact Check also reviewed the State Bank of Pakistan's official website and found no announcements or notifications related to any new currency design.

Verdict: The State Bank of Pakistan has not issued a redesigned Rs1,000 currency note.
