Dax Shephard addresses Cher's 'mean' comment to Kristen Bell

Cher knows how to keep with music and comedy together.

The musician appeared on the January 05 episode of Armchair Expert podcast, where Cher quipped to host Dax Shephard that his wife Kristen Bell deserves a better partner.

Shephard responds to Cher’s comment while speaking to Access Hollywood at the 2026 Golden Globes. The host admits that the singer’s comment was for fun and good laugh only – and no hurt feelings.

"I think we both expected that," said Shepard of Cher's comments. "That's why you love Cher, which couldn't be greater."

Monica Padman, Shepard's co-host, chimed in to say that "there was a couple big headlines, but people need to go listen to the whole thing because everything she [Cher] says is perfect."

Later, during the conversation, Shepard echoed his sentiments about Cher's appearance on the podcast, saying, "We thought it was hysterical."

During the episode, Shephard took Cher’s comment seriously and asked her whom does she think would be the appropriate partner for Bell if not him?

“Who would be your dream partner for her? 'Cause I know you think she could do better, and I don't disagree,” Shepard said of Bell, who also appeared on the episode.

"I'll tell you the thing that you should like about me," Shepard said as he pleaded his case to Cher. "I'm not threatened by her shining. Love it. The shinier she gets, the better."

Bell described her and Cher's boyfriends as "guys who polish you so you shine more", after Cher pointed out Alexander “AE” Edwards' trait.

“I adore you, and I understand nobody's good enough for her," Shepard later told Cher.

Bell told Cher that Shepard is "almost too good for me," referring to him as a “slow burn."

"You seem like a good dad," Cher told Shepard.

Bell approved, calling her husband, "the best dad there ever was."
