Louis Tomlinson has compared the rise of K-pop band BTS with former band One Direction’s legacy.
The English Irish band, formed in 2010, consisted of five members including Louis, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Niall Horan.
It was known to be the most influential group which became best-selling boy band within six years. Even after years of its disbandment, the band still have a massive fan following.
However, the 34-year-old singer believes that BTS has taken One Direction’s place.
The Lemonade hitmaker said in an interview with Billboard, “There was a time where BTS, they just got to their peak, I know they are still there, but when they were on their way up.”
Louis continued, “I felt like every time I got onto Twitter, they had taken one of our, like we got some record for something - some fastest selling thing, and they had taken it. It felt like every week, I was going and seeing a new thing taken away from me by BTS.”
The former 1D member admits being ashamed, but that doesn’t mean he holds any grudge against the Korean boy band.
“It did make me a little, it was a bit of shame, we had all these things, but I don’t begrudge them. That’s the nature of the music industry, it keeps moving”, said Tomlinson.
