Matthew McConaughey is setting an example by taking legal action against artificial intelligence, which has caused distress for many famous celebrities.

The 56-year-old actor has trademarked himself, which would protect his voice, expression, and likeness against misuse through deepfakes and similar technologies.

The Interstellar star reportedly has eight trademark applications approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), covering his audio clips, videos, and a famous clip of himself saying, “Alright, alright, alright.”

All of the content that now McCnaughey has trademarked can be challenged in court if used without his permission.

The True Detective actor’s legal team stated that while he hasn't personally been a victim of AI misuse, the legal action is a preventative measure against the rapidly advancing technology, which can very easily be put to use for identity theft, as per The Wall Street Journal.

While there isn't a clearly defined jurisdiction process against AI, many famous faces like Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Hanks have been affected by the deepfake technology, raising the importance of such measures to protect oneself.
