Robert Carradine, who passed away at age 71 on Monday, had been struggling a quiet battle with Bipolar Disorder for two decades.

The actor, who played memorable roles in Lizzie McGuire and Revenge of the Nerds franchise, had taken his own life, as per the heart-breaking statement from the family.

Just days after the death, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office had confirmed the full details of the actor’s passing, citing that he had died via hanging.

The online records indicated that Robert was still alive when he was taken to the hospital but succumbed to death. He had suffered “Sequelae of anoxic brain injury (ABI)” which happens when the brain is not supplied with sufficient oxygen.

The Carradine family shared that Robert had “always a beacon of light to everyone around him”.

They added, “We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with bipolar disorder.”

Following the statement, co-stars and friends shares tributes for the late actor.

Hilary Duff led tributes for her on-screen dad noting that it was “really hard to face this reality about an old friend”.

Jake Thomas, who played Carradine’s son and Duff’s brother, also shared a heartfelt message. “Good moments, challenging moments, and lots of laughs between. I looked up to him growing up,” he had said in a lengthy message on social media.
