Fact-check: AI-generated video falsely claims France 24 reported on anti-Pakistan campaign
Updated Wednesday Apr 01 2026
A video circulating on social media in Pakistan falsely claims to show a news segment by France 24 reporting on fake social media accounts posing as Iranian users to run a disinformation campaign against Pakistan.
No such segment was aired by the channel.
Claim
On March 29, a social media user shared a video, over a minute long, on X (formerly Twitter), purportedly showing a news report by France 24. The clip features a news anchor alongside the headline: “Misinfo Against Pakistan: Misinformation network of Indian and Afghan operators posing as Iranians on social media.”
In the video, the anchor claims that cyber intelligence identified a coordinated disinformation campaign targeting Pakistan.
“Data reveals that operators based in India and Afghanistan are systematically posing as Iranian users across social media platforms, specifically X,” the anchor says.
He further alleges that the campaign targets Pakistan and its efforts to facilitate talks between Iran and the United States.
Fact
France 24 did not air any report claiming that users in India and Afghanistan are posing as Iranian accounts to spread disinformation against Pakistan.
Using reverse image search, Geo Fact Check found that the video was edited from an episode of France 24’s programme Scoop, originally broadcast on March 27. The episode focused on media coverage of the war in Israel and restrictions imposed by the country’s military censor on the press. It contains no reference to Pakistan, nor any mention of Indian or Afghan actors posing as Iranian users online.
The original clip can be viewed here from 00:00 to 01:03 mark on the official website of France 24.
Furthermore, the format of the video online does not match that of France 24.
Geo Fact Check also extracted the clip’s audio and analysed it using Hiya, an AI detection tool designed to identify synthetic voice patterns. The tool flagged the audio as “deepfake,” assigning it a low authenticity score of 10 out of 100, indicating a high likelihood it was generated using artificial intelligence.
Verdict: The viral video is manipulated. France 24 did not broadcast any report alleging that users in India and Afghanistan were posing as Iranian accounts in a coordinated disinformation campaign against Pakistan. The clip is based on unrelated footage with AI-generated audio.
