What started as a viral “wait…what just happened?” moment has turned into something a lot more serious – at least from Keke Palmer’s perspective.
Speaking on her podcast, Palmer revisited the now-infamous proposal attempt during SXSW Festival – and let’s just say, her instincts kicked in fast.
“This is how I knew that something was wrong because the ring was nice,” she said. “It wasn't like no Cracker Jack ring.”
Yes, the ring was giving luxury, not prank.
“I’m serious, the ring looked expensive… That’s when I knew something was up.”
The moment unfolded during her live panel, when a stranger got on one knee like they were in the finale of a rom-com nobody auditioned for. But palmers quickly relaised this wasn’t scripted.
“That’s when I was like ‘is this a joke’ because it was so sincere,” she explained. “I could see in his eyes that we've had romance. We had a lifetime in this man's eyes.”
Her response? Firm – but careful.
“Okay, sir, no, I cannot marry you, I cannot marry you, sir.”
Things escalated when the man reportedly turned to the crowd, saying, “She wants to say yes. Help her say yes.” Palmer’s reaction: “Oh, no.”
While she kept her composure in the moment, she later admitted it rattled her. “This is nothing to play with… ‘man, this guy is in a really bad way, man.’”
Authorities later arrested the man for trespassing after he refused to leave the venue.
Palmer’s takeaway is clear: fame doesn’t erase humanity. “I’m only human,” she said—reminding everyone that boundaries aren’t optional, even in viral moments.
