Jamie Bell has officially joined the Shelby family!
He is stepping into the role of Duke Shelby in Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders series, a part played by Barry Keoghan in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, as per the streaming giant.
The casting marks a dramatic shift for the franchise as it moves into a new era, and fans are eager to know more about the actor taking on the mantle.
Bell first captured global attention as the young dancer in Billy Elliot (2000).
It was a performance that earned him a BAFTA and cemented his reputation as one of Britain’s brightest talents.
Since then, he has built a career defined by range and resilience: from gritty dramas like Defiance to blockbuster fare such as Fantastic Four, and acclaimed turns in Rocketman as Elton John’s lyricist Bernie Taupin.
His ability to inhabit complex, layered characters makes him a compelling choice for the dangerous and ambitious Duke Shelby.
According to Netflix’s announcement, the new Peaky Blinders series will be set in post-war Birmingham in the early 1950s, a decade after World War II.
Duke Shelby is described as “older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous,” signaling a darker, more ruthless chapter for the character.
Bell joins a star-studded cast including Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die) and newcomer Lucy Karczewski.
Series creator Steven Knight promised “more exciting cast announcements to come” and teasing that the show will feature the changing world in the 1950s.
For fans, the intrigue lies not only in the Shelby family’s next chapter but in how Bell, the boy who danced his way into cinema history, will transform into one of television’s most dangerous men.
