On April 19, several online users shared images from the race showing participants wearing T-shirts with a large picture of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Many users questioned the authenticity of the images. “Disgraceful if true,” wrote one user, while others asked whether the images had been photoshopped.

Fact

The claim is accurate. Participants at the event did wear T-shirts featuring Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, as confirmed by both a participant and a guest at the Chief Minister Punjab National Marathon and Cycling Race.

Former Olympian Shabana Akhtar, who attended the event as a guest, told Geo Fact Check over the phone: “Yes, there were shirts of different colours with a picture of Maryam Nawaz Sharif. I also have one of these shirts.”

Similarly, Rabia Fiaz, a participant in the race, shared a photograph of herself and others wearing T-shirts with the chief minister’s image at the start of the event.
