Jack Nicholson, the legendary three time Oscar winner, was seen in a rare candid moment this week as his daughter Lorraine celebrated his 89th birthday with an intimate snapshot.
Lorraine took to Instagram to post a photo with “89!!” written over the photo.
The picture featured her father smiling and clapping mid celebration in a cozy, art filled living room.
Dressed in a dark polo and rust colored trousers, the Shining star looked relaxed as he marked the milestone.
She also shared a throwback image of Nicholson in a bright red T shirt, cigar in hand, flashing his signature grin.
The importance of the rare glimpse is best understood knowing that Nicholson retreated from public life in recent years.
Once a fixture at Lakers games and Hollywood events, the actor has largely stayed out of the spotlight since his last film role in James L. Brooks’ 2010 comedy How Do You Know.
He has made only occasional appearances including at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special in 2025 where he introduced Adam Sandler.
Lorraine remains close to her father and brother Ray (33).
Both followed Nicholson’s footsteps and stepped into acting, though Lorraine shifted toward directing and producing.
The birthday post came just days after Lorraine published a blistering essay in W Magazine, criticizing Hollywood’s “status obsessed” culture and influencer driven clout chasing.
“L.A. has established itself as the status anxiety capital of the world,” she wrote, adding that social media followers may earn perks but “will not get you into Guy Oseary’s Oscars party.”
