KARACHI: Karachi South Zone Police claimed to have arrested 167 accused including 20 target killers in different actions during past two-and-a-half months, Geo News reported.
DIG South Abdul Khaliq Shaikh, addressing a press conference here Friday, said nine high profile accused, two from Lyari gang war, three Sunni Tehreek and four from MQM were among them.
The police officer further said 649 weapons of different kinds were also recovered from the custody of accused.
DIG Abdul Khaliq said the accused were involved in murder, attempt to murder, street crime, extortion, police encounter and other heinous crimes. He said accused belonging to MQM were involved in snatching hides, forcibly demanding ‘Fitra’ and other offenses.
It will take a year or more to bring Lyari at ‘zero crime’, he said and vowed to end crimes from Lyari.
