LAHORE: At least 14 children were killed and five others injured after the roof of a tuition centre collapsed in Lahore's Kahna area on Tuesday, officials said.

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir said 19 injured children were brought to Kahna Hospital following the incident. He added that 14 children had died, while five remained under treatment.

Rescue officials said that over 30 children were present inside the tuition centre when the roof collapsed.

Police said construction work was underway on the upper floor of the building, while children were attending classes on the ground floor at the time of the incident.

Authorities have taken two people into custody, including the owner of the building, as an investigation into the roof collapse incident continues.
