'Family Guy' casts Kieran Culkin as the Devil for new Hulu Halloween special

Family Guy will return with its annual Halloween and holiday specials exclusively on Hulu this year, with Academy Award winner Kieran Culkin joining the cast to voice the Devil in a first-look announcement made at the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Showrunner and executive producer Rich Appel revealed the news on stage, alongside cast members Alex Borstein, Arif Zahir and Jennifer Tilly, and co-executive producer and supervising director Peter Shin. 

The Halloween instalment, titled Happy Hell-o-ween, sees Brian and Stewie find themselves trapped in Hell, "paying for 24 seasons' worth of bad behaviour," according to its official logline. 

Culkin's Devil eventually gets so annoyed with the pair that he ends up handing them the keys to the underworld. 

Borstein joked during the panel that casting Culkin as Satan amounted to type-casting given his Emmy-winning turn as the ruthless Roman Roy on Succession, calling it "the role he was born to play," while co-star Seth Green agreed it was "not a stretch" and said the team was "very excited to have him on board."

A second special, the holiday-themed The Peter Clause, will follow shortly after. 

Its logline finds Peter competing against the rest of Quahog to be named the town's official Santa Claus; when he inevitably loses, viewers are promised he chooses to process the disappointment the Family Guy way rather than the mature one.

The announcement continues a run of exclusive Hulu specials for the animated sitcom, now heading into its 25th season, which returns to Fox in early 2027 before streaming next-day on Hulu. 

Culkin's casting comes on the heels of a breakout stretch for the actor, following his Succession finale and ahead of his upcoming role in the Hunger Games franchise. 

The Family Guy news arrived alongside a broader slate of Hulu animation announcements at Comic-Con, including a new holiday short for Bob's Burgers and a trailer for Futurama's 14th season.
