Countess Spencer uncovers forgotten family story after Meghan's tribute photo

Countess Spencer has shared a deeply personal window into the Spencer family history, revealing that her husband, Earl Charles Spencer, took her to visit the grave of his baby brother at Sandringham.

Taking to Instagram, Countess Spencer explained that the couple visited the resting place of John Spencer, who sadly died shortly after birth on January 12, 1960. 

His grave is located at St Mary Magdalen Church in Sandringham, beside the Earl’s grandfather.

“Today, @charles.earl.spencer took me to see the grave of his brother, John Spencer, who died just after birth on January 12th 1960,” she wrote.

She revealed that he had previously arranged for John’s headstone to be restored, preserving a small but meaningful part of the family’s history.

It's about the Norfolk home where Spencer and his siblings, including the late Princess Diana, spent their childhood years.

“I loved seeing these parts of Norfolk where he had what sounds like a gloriously happy childhood!” Countess added.

The post comes shortly after renewed public interest in the Spencer family following Meghan Markle’s recent holiday photo collection, which included a picture of Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet visiting Princess Diana’s grave at Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire.

The image, showing the children carrying flowers towards their grandmother’s final resting place, prompted widespread discussion online, with some questioning the sharing of such a private family moment.

Countess Spencer’s latest post received more than 1,500 likes, although comments were restricted, leaving only a single visible message praising Charles Spencer for restoring his brother’s headstone.
