Netflix abandons plans for David Fincher's ‘Squid Game' series

Netflix has reportedly dropped plans for David Fincher’s much talked about Squid Game series, leaving fans with a big surprise.

The project was linked to Fincher for years. However, Netflix never officially announced it. Now, new reports say the English language project has been delayed.

Fincher was reportedly working on the idea with Dennis Kelly, the creator of Utopia. The planned show was expected to tell a new story in the Squid Game world instead of remaking the original Korean series.

The news is surprising because Fincher already has a strong link with Netflix as he worked on House of Cards, Mindhunter and The Killer for the streaming giant.

Fans also started talking about an American Squid Game story after Cate Blanchett appeared in the Season 3 finale.

She appeared playing ddakji with a player in Los Angeles. The short scene quickly led to theories that the franchise could move to America.

Netflix, moreover, never confirmed that the scene was connected to Fincher’s project.

The streamer is now reportedly looking at other ways to grow Squid Game around the world.

Reports also suggest that Netflix could focus on local versions in countries such as France and Norway.

For now, the Fincher project cannot officially be called cancelled because Netflix never announced it.
