Jamie Lee Curtis addresses viral new girl comments

Jamie Lee Curtis wants everyone to take a breath — her “hated” New Girl comments were never meant to become a headline-sized feud.

The 67-year-old actress, who appeared as Jess Day’s mom in six episodes of the Fox comedy, recently described filming the single-camera series as “awful” and “not fun.” 

Her comments quickly made the rounds online, prompting Curtis to explain herself.

“As if we don’t have bigger issues facing Americans and the world at large and natural disasters and unnatural behaviours of despots than to be concerned about a flip comment picked up at a press moment promoting NEWLYWEDS @NBC,” she wrote on Instagram.

Curtis explained that she was comparing the experience with Newlyweds, the multi-camera sitcom she co-created with Gail Lerner.

“I was there gushing about a multi camera sitcom that I co-created along with Gail Lerner about a late in life love and people finding each other and marrying on a whim,” JLC continued.

She said performing Newlyweds in front of a studio audience feels more like theater because actors get instant reactions, unlike single-camera comedy.

“I said it wasn’t my favorite experience although the show itself is fantastic and the team that made it are talented,” Jamie added. 

“Zooey Deschanel is an absolute gem of a human and said I got to play with my friend, Rob Reiner, as exes and that was sweet and lovely.”

Curtis then delivered the final punchline: enough already.

“Please, let’s not waste clicks and comments and just move on to WAY more important things. That will be all.”

Meanwhile, Newlyweds is heading to NBC this fall, starring Tea Leoni and Tim Daly as an unlikely couple who marry after a whirlwind romance. Curtis will also appear in a recurring role.
