DURBAN: South Africa defeated India by ten wickets in the final session of the final day in the second Test here at the Kingsmead on Monday to stretch the top-ranked Test team´s unbeaten run to 14 series.
Chasing an easy target of 59, openers Graeme Smith (27) and Alviro Petersen (31) made the required runs from 11.4 overs in 48 minutes without being separated to give South Africa a ten-wicket victory and also a 1-0 series win.
Earlier, South Africa bowled out India for 223 in their second inning before lunch on the final day to close in on the win for veteran allrounder Jacques Kallis, who announced on Christmas Day that the game would be his last Test.
Only Ajinkya Rahane resisted South Africa´s bowlers before he was the last man out for 96, just four short of his first Test hundred.
For South Africa, left-arm spinner Robin Peterson captured four wickets for 74 while pace bowlers Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn claimed three each for 43 and 47, respectively.
